Water!

Salt marshes in New England are subject to strong tidal influences.  Note the distinct patterns of vegetation zones.

Beth worries about construction near salt marshes with the violent changing of the tide. The marsh above now looks similar to the photograph below which is just across the street, less than fifty feet away.

Some ordinances provide a set-back of 15 feet and an average 25 feet away from any wetland boundary to ensure that construction debris or other activities do not impact protected wetlands.  Of course, this is no way protects the water system and buildings against the affects of cyclical changes and global warming.

Wetlands are under assault as they are drained for both farms and developments. One only has to remember the levee breaks along the Mississippi River and the images of flooded communities.

Sadly, natural resources are destroyed for the gain of the business class. Beth is more than aghast that a small coastal community altered their ordinances to build more apartments.  Unsuspecting renters will soon see damp garages, mosquitoes.

Ultimately, water will claim everything as it has throughout history. There is no mercy. It doesn't forgive.
